Vernice Wills Berkley , 82, passed away to eternal rest Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001. A native of Southampton County, Vernice lived for many years in Norfolk. She had been a Hampton resident since 1951. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

A beloved mother and grandmother, Vernice is survived by her daughter, Betty B. Jacobson and husband Richard of Hampton; two sons, Arthur E. Berkley and wife Sharon of Carrollton and William B. Berkley and wife Patricia of Hampton; and her grandchildren, Jeremy Jacobson and Aaron Jacobson, Valerie B. Westheimer and Amber Nicole Berkley . She is also survived by her sister, Marjorie W . Lee and her brother, Thomas Nelson ``Joe'' Wills, both of Norfolk. She was preceded in death by her husband, W .B. Berkley , her parents, and a sister.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lawrence A. Erbin officiating. A graveside service will be held today at 3 p.m. in Rosemont Cemetery, Sedley. The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to Aldersgate U.M.C., 151 Wythe Parkway, Hampton, VA 23661. Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, is in charge of arrangements.
