COURTLAND - Jean Kisel Futrell, 80, passed away peacefully Jan. 20,
2006, in West Palm Beach, Fla., after a brief bout with lung cancer.
Jean passed away three years to the day after her oldest daughter, Linda
Williams Lagana, died. She was born in Dorchester, Mass., a daughter of
the late Anthony and Mary Rembisz Kisel and was the widow of Berder
Townsend Futrell. Jean was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of
Courtland Baptist Church and its Senior Circle, the Keenagers and WMU.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary Post No. 73 and
enjoyed swimming at the James L. Camp Jr. YMCA pool.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Williams Hightower and husband Mark
of Boynton Beach, Fla.; one granddaughter, Kayce Barnes of Virginia
Beach; two sisters, Frances K. O'Keefe of Dorchester, Mass. and Annette
K. Moore of Coral Springs, Fla.; three stepchildren, Julia Ann Jeffries
of Franklin, Berder T. Futrell Jr. of Jackson, N.C. and Jan Meredith
Futrell of Texas; a special companion, Joyce Key of Courtland ; and many
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Courtland Baptist
Church with the Rev. Thomas Speight officiating. Burial, with military
honors, will follow in Riverside Cemetery . The family will receive
friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin,
and suggest memorials be made to Courtland Baptist Church, P.O. Box 148,
Courtland , VA 23837 or Stray-No-More (an animal rescue organization),
P.O. Box 6106, Lake Worth, FL 33466.
