Bessie Whisenant Copeland, 61, died Nov. 27, 1997, at her home. 

A North Carolina native, she was the daughter of the late George and Reldy Mull Whisenant. She was a member of Windsor Baptist Church and was employed as a cashier with Southland Corp., Smithfield. 

She is survived by a son, Ricky W. Brame; a daughter, Sheila Kitchen and her husband Ricky, all of Windsor; two sisters, Sue Archer of Disputanta, and Margie Reason of Petersburg; five brothers, Ralph and Bob Whisenant, both of Ivor, Russell and Levi Whisenant, both of Morganton, N.C., and Bill Whisenant of Petersburg; a grandson, Ryan Brame, a step-grandson, Ricky M. Kitchen, and step-granddaughter, Jessica Nicole Kitchen. She was the sister of the late Marshall Toy Whisenant, George Whisenant and Conley Jason Whisenant. 

Funeral services will be held in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, on Saturday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Jimmy Crocker. Burial will be in Ivor Cemetery . The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Windsor Baptist Church.
