Vassie Mae Vick Pope, 89, died Nov. 5, 1999, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. Born in Southampton County, Mrs. Pope was a daughter of the late Cillis L. and Villa Drake Vick and the widow of Hinton Reese Pope. She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Catherine Marie Clayton of Seaford, Va., and Shirley P. Barnes and her husband, Rudy, of Capron; a son, McCoy B. Pope and his wife, Alice, of Carrsville; two sisters, Florence V. Ferguson and Alease V. Carr, both of Portsmouth; two brothers, L.C. Vick of Franklin and Cullie Vick of Courtland; six grandchildren, Dexter L. Toppin of Black Creek, Joyce F. Turner of Seaford, Timothy W. Toppin of Capron, Earl Clayton of Richmond, Sonya K. Smith of Capron and Krystal L. Rainone of Suffolk; six great-grandchildren, Amber and Trent Rainone, Brandon and Kyle Toppin and Trista and Talon Smith. She was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth V. Felts, and two brothers, Lloyd Vick and Earl Vick.
A funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. today at Beaver Dam Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Richard L. Peerey. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Shirley and Rudy Barnes, 25728 Meherrin Road, Capron. Wright Funeral Home, Boykins, is in charge.
