SUFFOLK - Selma Vann Stanley Ellis, 79, died June 5, 2006, at Sentara
Obici Hospital.

Born Dec. 18, 1926, in Whaleyville, she was the daughter of the late
Pearl Briley and Dempsey Vann. Mrs. Ellis was preceded in death by
her siblings, Otha Vann, Helen Vann, Erma Bell, Dempsey Vann Jr.;
grandchildren, Sonya Williams and Todd Williams; and first husband,
Curtis Edward Stanley. Selma was a member of the Magnolia United
Methodist Church and was retired as an operator attendant at Great
Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co.

Survivors include her husband, Leslie Ray Ellis; three daughters,
Faye Harrell and husband Sherwood of Suffolk, Linda Writtenberry and
husband Gerald of Suffolk and Lisa Helms and husband Marty of Roanoke
Rapids, N.C.; two sisters, May Belle Johnson of Suffolk and Margaret
Hoffman of Hampton; brother, John W. Vann of Portsmouth; eight
grandchildren, Kristie W. Cunningham and husband Jeremy, Tara W.

Moore and husband Art, Hollie W. Hill and husband Andy, Tyler V.

Helms, Collin R. Helms, Autumn B. Helms, Kimberly H. Williams and
husband Danny and Stanley L. Harrell; five great-grandchildren, Logan
and Grier Cunningham, Leslie Williams, Barrett and Mitch Moore.

A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Magnolia United
Methodist Church by the Rev. Michael Derflinger and the Rev. Michael
Brinkley with burial in the Holland Cemetery. The family will receive
friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home &
Crematory and other times at 597 Turlington Road, Suffolk, VA 23434.

Memorial donations may be made to the Nansemond Suffolk Rescue Squad,
P.O. Box 1515, Suffolk, VA 23439 or Magnolia United Methodist Church
c/o Building Fund, 1764 Wilroy Road, Suffolk, VA 23434. Condolences
