COURTLAND  Helen Simmons Davis, 83, a lifelong resident of Southampton County, died May 31, 1999, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.

   Born Aug. 21, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Robert Augustus and Missie Spain Simmons and the widow of Garland Hennen Davis Sr. She was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church.
   Survivors include two sons, G. Hennen Davis Jr. of Montgomery, Ala., Robert E. Davis and his wife, Carolyn of Courtland; two sisters, Hattie S. Bond of Franklin and Bernice S. Gillette of Capron; two brothers, Kilby Simmons and Gus Simmons, both of Courtland; four grandchildren, Marna Davis Noe, Ben Davis, Brad Davis and Amy Davis; and one great-grandchild, Violet Noe. She was predeceased by a brother, Bob Simmons.
   A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Courtland United Methodist by the Rev. Robert J. Parks Jr. 
  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and other times at the home of Bob and Carolyn Davis, 26288 Tyler Circle, Courtland. Memorials may be made to the Courtland United Methodist Church, 22416 Main St., or to the Courtland Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 449, Courtland, VA 23837.
