Elsie Revels Story, 72, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.
Born in Martin County, N.C., Mrs. Story was a daughter of the late Eli Slade and Ida Silverthorne Revels and the widow of Lloyd Story. Elsie had retired as a supervisor for GTE Telephone Co. and was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and its Melvin Bradshaw Circle and the Eager Beavers Senior Adult Group.
She had been a member of the Independent Telephone Pioneer Association; Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 56, Franklin; Southampton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; Women of the Moose and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include a stepson, Walter Story and his wife, Valerie, and their children, Diana and Connie, of Warrenton, Va.; two sisters, Mary R. Nelms of Smithfield and Lydia Stalls of Oak City, N.C.; a brother, William Revels of Roberson, N.C.; a niece, Tracey Lindsay and her husband, Darrin, of Carrolton; a nephew, Sean H. Nelms and his wife, Sandy, of Andrews Air Force Base; a great-niece, Holly Nelms; and a great-nephew, Matthew Hunter Nelms.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Beaver Dam Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Richard Peerey. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home, Boykins, and other times at Elsie's home at 44 Crescent Drive, Franklin. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin, VA 23851.
