MAVIS RADFORD BALLANCE

Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - April 10, 1999 

Mavis Radford Ballance, 86, died April 9, 1999, in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital. 

She was born Jan. 5, 1913, in Johnston County, N.C., a daughter of the late Sidney and Nora Bass Radford. Mrs. Ballance was a retired seamstress and a member of the High Street Senior Citizens. She was a member of the Church of God. 

Survivors include her son, Mack R. Ballance and his wife, Judy, of Franklin; four sisters, Ester Evans of Smithfield, N.C., Edna Hill of Chesapeake, Josephine Fowler of Blythe, Ga., and Doris Hale of Chesapeake; three brothers, Marion Radford of Pikeville, N.C., Randolph Radford of Camilla, Ga., and Robert Radford of Chesapeake; two grandchildren, Susan B. Denton of Goose Creek, S.C., and Paul R. Ballance of Franklin; six great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Amber, Russell and Emily Ballance, Samuel and Joseph Denton. Mrs. Ballance was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters, Archie, James and J.R. Radford, Louise Pittman, Gladys Wells and Agnes Fulgum. 

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. David S. Dillon officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and suggests that memorials be made to a favorite charity.
