VIRGINIA P. CARR

Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - April 22, 1999 

Virginia Powell Carr, 73, a resident of Zuni, died at her home Wednesday, April 21, 1999. 

Born on Oct. 15, 1925, in Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Lenis and Pearl Bridgeman Powell. She was a homemaker and had worked as a substitute postmistress at the Zuni post office. A member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Zuni, Mrs. Carr had served as Sunday School superintendent and was a member of the Presbyterian Women of the church. 

A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister, she is survived by her husband, Frederick G. Carr; a son, Michael Thomas Carr; three daughters, Peggy C. Frieze, Debbie C. Braswell and her husband, Wayne, and Cynthia C. Goodman and her husband, Billy, all of Zuni; a sister, Juanita P. Alphin and her husband, Bob, of Zuni; three brothers, Thomas L. Powell Jr. and his wife, Blanche, of Groveland, Fla., Ernest Powell and his wife, Theresa, of Dale City, Va., and Russell Powell and his wife, Johann, of Seabrook, Md.; six grandchildren, Christopher W. Braswell, Melissa A. Braswell, Stephen M. Cobb, Ashley M. Goodman, Jonathon Thomas Carr and Richard L. Carr Jr.; brother-in-law, Raymond ``Ray'' Buck of Suffolk; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Richard ``Ricky'' L. Carr and a sister, Shirlee P. Buck. 

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Purviance Funeral Home Chapel, Wakefield, with the Rev. Harry Christie and the Rev. John Hartman officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Christian Church Cemetery, Windsor . The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the residence, 5438 Zuni Circle, Zuni. Memorial donations may be made to Bethany Presbyterian Church, Zuni, Va. 23898.
