Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - March 26, 2004

Sally Porter OBerry, 89, died March 24, 2004, at the East Pavilion. A
native of Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Genie Louis
Porter Sr. and Johnnie Drake Porter and the widow of Robert Bernard
OBerry Sr. Mrs. OBerry was salutatorian of the 1932 class of Newsoms
High School and was the oldest member of Barnes United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Bernard OBerry Jr. of Franklin, Graham
OBerry and his wife Betty of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Billy OBerry and his
wife Nancy of Franklin; one sister, Marion Howell of Franklin; a
brother, J.L. Porter Jr. of Franklin; six grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren. Mrs. OBerry was predeceased by three sisters,
Katherine Blythe, Mabel Hill and Inez Rountree; two brothers, James
Porter and Randolph Porter; and a grandson, Brad OBerry.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in
Hollywood Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Gary Hartman officiating. The
family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral
Home, Franklin, and suggest memorials be made to Barnes United Methodist
Church, c/o Betty W. Darden, 33701 Statesville Road, Newsoms , VA 23874.
