Virginia Adelle Pope King, 86, died Jan. 1, 2000, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.
Born in Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Willie Grover and Flora Thomas Gray Pope and the widow of George Thomas ``Mike'' King Jr. She was a member of Mount Horeb United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, George Thomas ``Billy'' King III and his wife, Sammy, of Hampton; three sisters, Elizabeth Fowler of Franklin, Barbara Burgess of Capron, Gwendolyn Overby of Branchville; four brothers, Harvey Pope of Courtland, Linwood ``Cat'' Pope of Newsoms, James Pope of Courtland and William Pope of Newport News; two grandchildren, Katherine Porras of Raleigh, N.C., and Shavonda Turner of Fredericksburg, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Justin Thomas Porras and Kristina Lynn Porras.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Boykins Chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Langley and the Rev. Kenneth Williams officiating. Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park . The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and suggest that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, c/o Mrs. June Duck, 100 Fairview Drive, Franklin, VA 23851.
