Elizabeth O'Berry ``Peter'' Carter, 85, loving mother, ``Nana,'' and great-grandmother, died Nov. 16, 2000.
A lifelong resident of Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late William T. and Annie Vick O'Berry and the widow of Julian L. Carter. She was a member of Newsoms Baptist Church and its Fidelis Sunday School class, a longtime Pink Lady and member of the Southampton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha C. Applewhite and her husband, Allen, of Courtland; three grandchildren, Gregory A. Applewhite and his wife, Courtney, and Christopher C. Applewhite and wife, Tracy, and Clifford A. Applewhite; a great-granddaughter, Taylor Ann Applewhite; a sister, Dorothy O. Fowler of Warrenton, N.C.; and a brother, Edward R. O'Berry of Newsoms . She was predeceased by two sisters, Sarah O. Austin and Virginia O'Berry; and two brothers, William T. O'Berry Jr. and James F. O'Berry.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hollywood Cemetery , Newsoms , with the Rev. Curtis Faison officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of Martha and Allen Applewhite, 23430 Indian Woods Trail, Courtland, and suggests that memorials be made to Newsoms Baptist Church, P.O. Box 312, Newsoms , VA 23874. Wright Funeral Home is in charge.
