NEWSOMS - Georgia Agnes Leftwich Drake, 96, widow of Dave Tom Drake, and longtime Southampton County elementary school teacher died June 26, 2001, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.< Mrs. Drake was born in Clifton Forge, Va., a daughter of the late Ward Thompkins and Thelbert Inge Leftwich. She was a graduate of Farmville State Teachers College and was an elementary school teacher for more than 44 years. She retired in 1969 as a seventh grade teacher in Newsoms . She was a member and former children's Sunday School teacher at Newsoms United Methodist Church. 

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Drake Majors of Port Charlotte, Fla., and several nieces and nephews. 

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, by the Rev. Kenneth Williams and the Rev. Charlene Beethoven. The burial will be at Hollywood Cemetery , Newsoms . A visitation will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to Newsoms United Methodist Church, Newsoms , VA 23874.
