CHESAPEAKE - Alice Virginia Griffin, 82, of the 200 block of Cedar Road,
died February 1, 2005. A native of Portsmouth, she was the widow of
Eugene Frank Griffin, Sr. and retired as a tealephone operator at the
Portsmouth Naval Hospital. She was known as "Millie the Clown:, and a
member of Sweethaven Baptist Church, Fellowship Chapter No. 140 Order of
the Eastern Star and a member of Clowns of America.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Liebold and husband Chuck of
Kissimmee, FL and Debbie Upton and husband Eddie of Chesapeake; two
sons, Eugene F. Griffin Jr. of Chesapeake and Charles E. Griffin and
wife Lu of Portsmouth; a sister Evelyn Lewin of Chesapeake; 11
grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home,
Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the REv. Damon E. Wyatt. Burial will be in
Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral
home Friday from 7 to 8:30.
