IVOR  Shirley Jones, 91, a former resident of Ivor, died March 12 at St. Marys  Hospital in Richmond.
   Born Dec. 14, 1909, in Southampton County, she was the daughter of Robert Lee Jones and Ora Harris Jones. Miss Jones, a member of Ivor Baptist Church in her early years, left the Ivor area at age 18. She later attended the College of William and Mary. She had a 25 year career on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., as a caseworker and citizen liaison worker for four members of the House of Representatives. She went to work in Congress in 1953 for a representative from Seattle, Wash. She later worked for a California congressman before joining the office of the 9th Congressional District, North Carolina congressman Rep. Charles Jonas and his successor, Rep. Jim Martin, who later became governor of North Carolina. Despite her long and active political career, she never lost her love for Ivor Baptist Church and the community of Ivor.
  She was assisted for many years by her trusted friend and advisor, Russell W. Sterling and wife Jean of Richmond.
   A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ivor Baptist Church, Ivor, by the Rev. Steve Gupton. Burial will be in Ivor Cemetery. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, is in charge of arrangements.
