Pearl Ellen Jones Raiford, 74, died Sept. 22, 2001, peacefully in her home. Mrs. Raiford was the widow of James Jones Raiford. She was born April 24, 1927 in Isle of Wight County, the daughter of the late Sam and Martha Stringfield Jones. She was a member of Ivor Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, James J. ``Jimmy'' Raiford Jr. of Muskogee, Okla.; a daughter, Judy R. Carr and husband, Herbert of Ivor; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Elizabeth Gray of Sedley, Sally Brandt and Alice Adams of Newport News, Martha Ruth Wells of Smithfield, Mary Byrum and husband Roland of Zuni, Jean Stephenson and husband Thomas Earl and Betty Cofer of Suffolk; two brothers, Sam Jones and wife, Annie and James Jones and wife, Pearl of Windsor. She was mother of the late Margaret R. Smith and her husband John.
A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Ivor Cemetery by the Rev. Steven R. Gupton. The family will be at Mrs. Raiford's residence, 8267 Gale Ave., Ivor. Memorial donations may be made to Ivor Vol. Rescue Squad. The family and friends will assemble at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, on Monday before the funeral from 9 to 10 a.m.
