Olive Katherine Johnson Bryant, 81, died June 11, 1999, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Bryant was born Jan. 30, 1918, in Spokane, Wash., and was a daughter of the late Clarence Johnson and Eva Johnson Whitmire. Mrs. Bryant was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed serving as an officer with United Methodist Women, a member of the Ladies Bible Class and Mary White Cobb Circle. Throughout her years, she maintained a home for her family, especially during the time of her husband's military service in World War II and Korea. She had many interests and hobbies such as teaching crafts, rolling bandages, campaigning for the Red Cross and being an active parent with Boy and Girl Scouts. She also participated at Glenwood Park Presbyterian Church, Norfolk, where she served as president of the Women's Organization and helped establish the Glenwood Park Community Center.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, G. Russell Bryant of Courtland ; a daughter, Mary Kay Miller and her husband, Lee, of Courtland ; two sons, Larry Bryant and his wife, Pat, of Montgomery, Ala., and Jim Bryant and his wife, Sherry, of Courtland ; 13 grandchildren, Sandra Miller Waters, Susan Miller, Steven Miller, Sally Miller Cospelich, Stacey Miller Boender, Larry Russell Bryant II, Kathy Bryant Henderson, Frank Bryant, Yvonne Bryant Doll, Angela Bryant, Mary Lynn Bryant, James Bryant Jr. and Mark Bryant; eight great-grandchildren, Lauren and Christine Waters, Andrew Cospelich, Jerry Bryant, Caroline Bryant, Shonna Lee Doll, Kaylyn Doll and Conrad Elias Bryant; and a sister-in-law, Almeda Whitmire Lamb. She was predeceased by her stepfather, Jim Whitmire; a brother, E.S. ``Buddy'' Whitmire; and a grandson, Charles Bryant.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Courtland United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert J. Parks Jr. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery , Courtland . The family will receive friends at the home of Russell Bryant, 22141 Main St., Courtland , and suggests that memorials be made to Courtland Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 449, Courtland VA 23837. Wright Funeral Home is in charge.
