Bonnie Holcombe Battle, 87, died Aug. 12, 2002, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. 
Born in Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Clifton Jesse and Gabie Lankford Holcombe. She was a former employee of Leggett's Department Store and a member of Hunterdale United Church of Christ. 
Survivors include a son, Lemuel Bembry Battle Jr. and his wife, Denise, of Salem, Va.; three sisters, Doris H. Bradshaw and Willis H. Barnes, both of Franklin and Dawn H. Wright of Smithfield; a brother, Marvin A. Holcombe of Ephrata, Pa.; a grandson, Barry Griffin Battle of Blacksburg; two step grandchildren, Anita E. Seagle and Forrest L. Seagle IV, both of Salem. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, L.B. Battle Sr.; a half-sister, Flora Simone; and two brothers, C.J. and Braxton Holcombe. 
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Southampton Memorial Park with the Rev. Lafayette Wilkins officiating. The family will receive friends at 7 p.m. today in Wright Funeral Home and suggests memorials be made to Hunterdale United Church of Christ, 714 Hunterdale Road, Franklin, VA 23851.
