WINDSOR - Elender Estelle Hines Rhodes Coggin, 93, died March 28, 2003 at Obici Hospital in Suffolk. A native of Isle of Wight County, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Zippora Spivey Hines. She was a lifelong member of Colosse Baptist Church and homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Johnnie Byron Rhodes of Windsor; four grandchildren, Rene Rhodes Boutin and husband Spencer od Windsor, Robert Byron Cumbey and wife Rhee, and Warren Dean Cumbey, all of Franklin, Lisa Dawn Cumbey of Richmond; three great-grandchildren, Brandon Rhodes Boutin, Casey Byron Cumbey, Bradleigh Elizabeth Cumbey; a host of friends; and a special dog, Angelica. Mrs. Coggins was predeceased by her first husband, Johnnie Burgess Rhodes; her second husband, John A. Coggin; a daughter, Christine Rhodes Cumbey; and a grandson, John Alan Cumbey.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Colosse Baptist Church with the Rev. T.A. Powell and the Rev. James B. Crocker officiating. Burial will follow in Colosse Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin

Natalie Francis Coleman, age 89, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003 surrounded by her family after a long fulfilled life. She was the widow of Luin Franklin Thomas Coleman after 40 happy years of marriage. She was born June 25, 1914 in Southampton County, Boykins, Va., the daughter of Frances Sears and Albert Sidney Francis. She was educated in the public schools and graduated in 1930 from Boykins High School. She graduated from the State Teachers College (now Longwood) in 1940 and taught in schools in Southampton County, Arlington and Nottoway County. She was an active member of Crenshaw United Methodist Church in Blackstone and an enthusiastic participant in the Joy Group until the last several years. She is survived by her three children, Ann and Durward Hechler of Richmond, Albert and Kathy Coleman of Afton, Jean and Bob Miller of Loveland, Colo.; eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; her sister, Deaton Facuette of Boykins, Va.; her sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Francis of Richmond and Betty Francis-Brown of Boykins, Va.; and a large, loving extended family and friends. A special thanks to all the loving hands and hearts that cared for her in her last days at The Hermitage in Richmond. A celebration of her life here on earth will take place at Crenshaw United Methodist Church in Blackstone, Va. on Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 11 a.m. Family visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., July 25 at Hamner-McMillian Funeral Home. As she loved flowers, they will be welcomed, as will contributions to the Crenshaw United Methodist Church Building Fund or The Hermitage Employees Christmas Fund.
