Frances Harris Waid, 83, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 1996, at Obici Hospital in Suffolk. 

She was the widow of C. Elmo Hines and Austin Waid. She was a retired bookkeeper and former employee of Horton's Furniture Co., Wakefield, Dudley Robertson Farm Equipment, Wakefield, and the Carpenter Museum, Waverly. She was a member of Millfield Baptist Church and Burton's Grove Ladies Aid Society. Her parents were the late Emmett Mautie and Mary Frances Schaefer Harris. 

Survivors include a nephew, R.M. "Bobby" Stephenson of Ivor; two nieces, Nancy L. Stephenson of Ivor and Faye Campbell of Powhatan; and a devoted friend, Virginia Hammond of Wakefield. She was sister of the late John Robert Harris. 

A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Ivor Cemetery by the Rev. Mike Harrell. The family will receive friends in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Stephenson, 11271 Ivor Road, Ivor. Friends may assemble at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, at 2 p.m. Tuesday for the procession to the grave. Memorial donations may be made to the building fund of Millfield Baptist Church, Ivor, Va. 23866.
