Gertrude Ray Eure Babb, 88, a longtime resident of Suffolk, died Feb. 27, 2000.
She was a native of Bertie County, N.C., and was the daughter of the late Charles Thomas Ray and Jane Pierce Ray and the widow of Jesse B. Babb. She retired from the Quality Control Department of Birdsong Peanut Co.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Virginia E. Kafka of Daphne, Ala., and Carol and Bob Clark of Hampton, with whom she made her home for many years; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Samuel H. Eure Jr. and Barbara Eure of Suffolk and Jesse R. Eure of Newport News; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Western Branch Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. James Hughes. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Hill Funeral Home.
