Fannie Howell Bracey died in Coliseum Park Nursing Home on Saturday, October 12, 2002. 
She was born May 23, 1916, in Pikeville, N.C., the middle of 10 children born to Burrel and Pett Howell. Mrs. Bracey was a Peninsula resident since 1940 when her husband, Robert Arthur, obtained employment at Newport News Shipbuilding. Widowed with three small children in 1945, she was a loving mother and grandmother who dedicated her entire life to her family. This much loved and admired lady will be sorely missed. 
Mrs. Bracey retired in 1978 after 28 years of dedicated service to Riverside Hospital Business Office. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she attended regularly until failing health prevented her participation. She was also a member of the Hilton Garden Club - loved flowers and nature, she enjoyed walks in the woods, and often admired the beautiful James River sunsets from Hilton pier. 
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Bettie and Ron Gonser of Hampton; sons, Robert Arthur Bracey Jr. of Newport News, and William Lee Bracey of Hampton; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a very special niece, Mary Huskey of Suffolk; two sisters, Ethel Owens of Wilson, N.C., and Geneva Rohrs of Debary, Fla.; brother, Robert Howell of Plymouth, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. 
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the Coliseum Park Nursing Home's "D" wing staff and Dr. Marie Cui for the loving care provided during their mother's last years. 
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2002, in the Peninsula Funeral Home Chapel, Warwick Blvd., Newport News, with Rev. John Price, Pastor of Bethany United Methodist Church, officiating. Private interment will follow in Windsor. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, at the funeral home. 
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Peninsula Alzheimer's Association, Hampton Roads Chapter #20, Suite 233, Norfolk, VA 23502.
