Mary Birdie Blythe Overby, 85, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.
Mrs. Overby was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and was a daughter of the late Frank and Etta Blythe. She was a lifelong member of Hunterdale United Church of Christ and was a retired seamstress with Leggett's Department Store in Franklin.
Birdie is survived by her husband of 66 years, Larry Beale Overby; two daughters, Carolyn O. Parrish of Chester and Jean O. Joyner and her husband, David, of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, Carol P. Dotson, Kay P. Whipp, Jeffrey Neal Joyner and Michael David Joyner; and three great-grandchildren, Sarah and Emily Dotson and James Whipp. Mrs. Overby was predeceased by a brother and sister, Irvin Blythe and Margaret Etta Blythe.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Hunterdale United Church of Christ with the Revs. Wayne Blythe, Dietmar Plajer, Kenneth Williams and Dr. Alan Campbell officiating. The interment will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in the fellowship hall of the church. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin, VA 23851. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, is in charge of arrangements.
