Emma Luke
SUFFOLK - Emma Luke of the 700 block of Maryland Avenue died Feb. 3, 1998.
A native of Suffolk, she was the daughter of the late George T. Luke and
LuEmma Smith Luke. She was a member of the Suffolk Christian Church, the West
Memorial Class of the Church and Circle No. 1 of the Women's Fellowship.
She was an Alumnae of Longwood College (formally Farmville State Teachers
College). She was a former school teacher and worked as bookkeeper for the
former McLellan McCrory store.
Survivors include her niece's, Elise Babb Rock, Mae Babb Rogers, Rachel
Mizell, all of Suffolk; Nancy Luke of Newport News; her nephews, Sydney Powell
Jr. of Suffolk, Eugene Luke of Portsmouth; several great nieces and nephews,
including William D. Wyatt Sr. and his wife Nita.
Funeral services will be conducted friday at 2 p.m. in the Suffolk Christian
Church by the Rev. Michael D. Halley and the Rev. Dr. Robert B. Marr, Pastor
Emeritus of Suffolk Christian Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the R. W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home today
from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at 130 Military Road. Memorial donations
may be made to Suffolk Christian Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 1457,
Suffolk, Va. 23439.
