Mildred Avis Spivey, 89, a lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County, died Sept. 7, 1998. 
  She was the daughter of the late Wesley F. Garris and Mattie S. Garris Hines and the widow of Grafton R. Spivey. Mrs. Spivey was a longtime member of Colosse Baptist Church and was the organist for many years. 
  Survivors include two brothers, Wilson Floyd Garris of Windsor and Elbert R. Hines of Glen Allen, Va., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, John H. Avis. 
  The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, by the Rev. Lee Bowers. Burial will be in Colosse Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home other times at the home of Maurice and Judy Rhodes, 27410 Walters Highway. Memorials may be made to Colosse Baptist Church, 6361 Rhodes Drive, Windsor, Va. 23487.
