NOTE

îîî HE VOLUME IN hand contains abstracts of Southampton County’s earliest will books (Books I through V), cov-ering the period 1749 to 1800. It was originally published in two mimeographed volumes, Volume I appearing in 1947, Volume II in 1958. Owing to the eleven-year interval in the publication of the two volumes the complete work is rather hard to come by today, even in the larger public libraries. Partly for this reason, and partly to satisfy demand, we have undertaken to reprint it. Our publication, however, is not merely a reprint but an improved edition, consolidated (two volumes in one), re-typed, and re-indexed for the convenience of the researcher.
