Charles Edward Bradshaw 29 JAN 1848 - 1 NOV 1938 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C. E. Bradshaw, City's Oldest Mason Is Dead Funeral Services Will Be Tomorrow Afternoon at 3 o'Clock Charles Edward Bradshaw, aged 89, Norfolk's oldest Mason in point of membership and a prominent farmer of Southampton County for more than 60 years, died at his residence, 635 Georgia avenue, yesterday morning [1 Nov 1938] at 9:05 o'clock, after an illness of two weeks. He had been in failing health for more than two years. Mr. Bradshaw was a native of Southampton County and had been a resident of Norfolk for 18 years. In 1870 became a member of Berlin Lodge 42 A. F. & A. M. being elected junior deacon in December, 1874, and serving his lodge there in various capacities until 1909, when he moved his membership to Courtland Lodge 85, A. F. & A. M. In 1934, he was elected to honorary membership by Ruth Lodge 89, of the city. He formerly was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church Baptist Church of Southampton County. Mr. Bradshaw was the son of the lead Capt. Edwin and Mrs. Mary White Bradshaw. His wife, Mrs. Lucy Miller Bradshaw, died last August. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Thomas L. Hildreth and Miss Marian Thelma Bradshaw, of Norfolk; three sons, Roy B. Bradshaw, of Crewe, and Dudley B. and Darden H. Bradshaw, of Norfolk, a brother, Robert M. Bradshaw, of Southampton County; eight grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. The body will be taken from the residence to the funeral home of E. Lee Cox and Bro., Westover Avenue at Manteo Street, for funeral services tomorrow afternoon [3 Nov 1938] at 3 o'clock. The Rev. Dr. Sparks W. Melton, pastor of Freemason Street Baptist Church will officiate.
