Obituary of Elizabeth A (Lizzy) Withy 22 MAY 1870 - 8 FEB 1921 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MRS. W. R. HAYES Franklin has lost one of its choicest citizens in the passing of Elizabeth A. Hayes, beloved wife of Captain William R. Hayes, South High street. After a long and painful illness borne with rare patience and fortitude, her spirit passed in triumph to God in the early morning of Tuesday the 8th. It was a welcome call when “God’s finger touched her and she slept”. Long she had anticipated the home-g6ing with the joy and confidence of one who had found her life in Christ, and and who longed for the unveiled vision of His face. To those of us who knew her imimately heaven/seems enriched in receiving so choice a spirit. Mrs. Hayes was born May 22nd, 1870, in the Franklin section, the daughter of the late Captain George H. Withy, and Mrs. Emma Withy, who survives her. In early life she was converted and baptized into the membership of the Franklin Baptist Church. She was married to William R. Hayes on February 23, 1888. She is survived by her husband, one son, Dr. George W. Hayes, of Portsmouth, her mother, Mrs. Withy, one sister, Mrs. A. A. Cutchin, two nieces, Misses Emma and Lizzie Mae Cutchin, and one nephew, Master Adolph Cutchin. Mrs. Hayes from childhood was the splendid product of a Christian home; and grace transformed and toned her life into the noblest qualities of strength and beauty. In the home where she reigned a queen, in the church where her devotion was as unfailing as the grace upon which it fed, in the wide circle of friends who knew her intimately, and loved her for her Worth’s sake, in every circle she breathed the fragrance of a life that embodied those graces which make character beautiful and potent in its uplifting influence. Hers was a life, in Which were blended in splendid symmetry, the mystical and the practical. She did not neglect to sit at the Master’s feet) while she carried the problems of the home in her heart. Such characters are God’s choicest gifts to any community, They cannot die. They live in the grateful affection of those who have felt their influence. Their ministry goes on forever. May God comfort the mourners.—Her Pastor. The funeral services were conducted from the Franklin Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. M. A. MacLean, assisted by Dr. C. H. Rowland of the Christian Church, and interment was made in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The pallbearers were: active, Dr. A. P. Cutchin, R. A. Pretlow, Geo. H. Parker, Geo. R. Hayes, B.
