Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. ## Transcript Augustus Crumpler (Gus) Whitehead 8 MAY 1884 - 8 AUG 1947 Obituary for Augustus Crumpler "Gus" Whitehead Funeral Services for Augustus Crumpler Whitehead, aged 63, well known resident of Handsom, who died at his home Friday, August 8 [1947], after an illness of many months, were held at the W J M Holland & Sons Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon, August 10 [1947] at one o'clock and were conducted by his pastor, Rev. N. D. Blackman, of Courtland Baptist Church. Russell Bulman of Norfolk, sang "Abide With Me" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." A son of the late Jacob Warner and Ella Crumpler Whitehead of the county, Mr. Whitehead was a member of the Courtland Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margie Vann Whitehead, one daughter, Mrs. T. C. Cutchins, Jr., of Handsom, four sons, Arthur C. Whitehead of Murfreesboro, N. C., William Wallace Whitehead of Norfolk, and Warner Van Whitehead and Delbert L. Whitehead of Handsom, Two brothers, Emmitt and Frank Whitehead of Courtland; two sisters, Mrs. B. A. Whitehead of Sebrell, and Mrs. Carrie L. Hill of Hilton Village, three grandchildren; and fourteen nieces and nephews. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. The pallbearers were Wallace Cole, Emmett Applewhite, Emmett Vaughan, Leslie Whitehead, G. D. Hedgepeth, J. A. Badgett, A. E. Applewhite, and Herman Worrell.
