WILLIAMS DIES LAWYER WAS 72 (headline) Lewis Daughtrey Williams, a family law and personal injury attorney in the Richmond area for 45 years, died of complications of a stroke and diabetes Friday in a local hospital. He was 72 and lived in Powhatan. A Suffolk native, he served in the 66th Infantry "Panther" Division in France and England during World War II. He was a sergeant with an anti-tank platoon. / Mr. Williams earned bachelor's and law degrees from Washington and Lee University. After several years as an adjuster for State Farm Insurance, he went into law practice in the early 1950s. Mr. Williams later became a partner in the firm of White, Paul and Williams, a firm that later became Williams, Paul, Smith and Moore. Mr. Williams went into solo practice for a time and later was a partner in Williams and Woodruff until about four years ago, when he went into solo practice. Mr. Williams was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Joppa Masonic Lodge. He also was a member of the Richmond Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a member of Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church in Midlothian. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Brindle Williams; three sons, Lewis D. Williams Jr. of Midlothian, Mark Williams of Powhatan and Burch Williams of Suffolk; a daughter, Deborah Snellings of Powhatan; a stepson, Jake Berman of Chesterfield; two stepdaughters, Kerry Armbruster of Blackstone and Susan Elliott of Chesterfield; and a brother, Alton G. Williams of Corvalis, Ore. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church, 1100 Mount Pisgah Drive, Midlothian. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
