Suffolk - Merel Galloway Wilder, 87, wife of the late James F. Wilder and a native of Pitt County, N. C., passed away Thursday April 17, 2014. As a child she attended Black Jack Original Free Will Baptist Church. 

Her entire life was devoted to her daughter Carolyn Sue "Pookie" Wilder; son Chris Wilder and wife Georgann; sister, Helen Hardee; cousin Billy Cooper; special nieces, Carole Taylor, Sherry Crotts, Lisa McDonald, Loria Vainright, Marilyn Tucker, Leslie Heath and special friends Nadina Gary, Ruth Faulk, Kenny Moody and Gary Harris. 

A funeral service will be held at 2 p. m. Monday, April 21, in Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk, VA by Rev. Scott Pond. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Condolences may be registered at bakerfoster.com.
