A native of Southampton County, he was owner and operator of Whitehead's Barber Shop, Smithfield, for 14 years and past master of Smithfield Union Lodge No. 18, AF&AM. He attended Smithfield Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Rose Drewry Whitehead; two daughters, Miss Donna Lee Whitehead and Miss Frances Lynette Whitehead of Smithfield; his son, Wendell Chris Whitehead of Smithfield; his mother, Mrs. Frances Kitchen Joyner; his s sister, Miss Dorothy Whitehead of Silver Spring, Md., and two brothers, Roland E. Whitehead of Franklin and Claiborne Y. Whitehead of Decatur, Ga. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, by the Rev. Warren F. Taylor.
