Anna Whalen Obituary Anna Marie Reiner Whalen, 62 years of age, beloved wife, loving mother and adored nana, died on January 3rd following 2 years' battle with gallbladder cancer. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, William "Bill" Whalen; son, Douglas Wesley Whalen (Hillary Drew) of Attleboro, Massachusetts; daughter, Colleen Marie Curtis (Jay Curtis Sr. ) of Suffolk, Virginia; five grandchildren, Aurora Marie Curtis, Hallie Anna Whalen, Sierra Michelle Curtis, Ariella Madeline Curtis, and Jay Patrick Curtis, Jr. ; siblings, Kathy Burns (J. Keith Burns) of Tennessee, William "Bill" Reiner (Anne Reiner) of Wilmington, North Carolina and Doris Reiner Poulot of France; several nieces and nephews. The oldest of four children, born to George and Nancy Reiner (both deceased) Anna moved several times as an army brat and lived in the Philippines, Germany and along the east coast of the U. S. She was the daughter, wife, and mother of US army veterans who served in foreign wars. She was a graduate of Sandhills Community College and Union Pines High School in Moore County, North Carolina. She met her husband when he was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC and they raised their family in Attleboro, Massachusetts, where they lived for 34 years. Anna worked as a legal secretary for firms in Southern Pines, NC and Attleboro, MA and worked for 25 years for AAA Northeast in Providence, Rhode Island, retiring early as executive assistant to the president and CEO. Bill and Anna moved to Suffolk, Va in 2021 to live with the Curtis family. Anna was a prolific cross-stitcher and many people benefited from her personalized gifts. She also liked to cook, bake, garden, and read. Many times her cooking would be labeled "Cajun" because she'd cook from the living room and the food would be "blackened". Anna's favorite authors were Mary Balogh, Georgette Heyer, and Lincoln Child/Douglas Preston in the Pendergast series. She was a lifetime Star Wars fan, loved the beach, and family trips; but her greatest joy was her family. Anna will be dearly missed by family and friends. R. W. Baker & Co.
