He was born in Nansemond County the son of the late Hutson Abraham and Nell Reid West. He was predeceased by his sister, Gladys W. Parrish and her husband Wallace Parrish. He was a member of South Quay Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Christine Copeland West; daughter, Glenda West Johnson and husband James; sons, Wayland West and Stephen West and wife Carolyn; grandchildren, Angie Johnson O Neal and husband, Jason; Matthew Johnson and wife Kristy, McKayla, Sheridan, Rhett, Alyssa and Jett West; great-grandchildren, Brennan and Abby O Neal and Zachariah and Hannah Johnson, a brother, Hugh A. West and many nieces and nephews. Glenn farmed all of his life and worked at Union Camp Corp. for 18 years. Glenn s greatest joys in life were family, farming, Christmas and children. He coached baseball and football many years at Holland Athletic Association. He loved playing sports with his children, nieces and nephews and later grandchildren at home in the yard or the impromptu after church games of softball with friends and family. He also enjoyed working with the youth at church. All the children on his teams and his church group loved him and respected him and the values he represented. The funeral will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, September 28, 2012 at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, VA by the Rev. Clyde R. Alderman. Burial will follow at Holland Cemetery. The visitation will be held Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Wright Funeral Home.
