Born August 4, 1912 in Rockbridge County, he was the son of the late Grier Presley and Sarah Jane Smith Watkins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Frances Watkins. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Alice Marie Stainback, Hopewell, and Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Nicely, Clifton Forge; three sons, William Preston Watkins, Lexington; Thomas Edgar Watkins, Roanoke, and Samuel Toman Watkins, Vinton; one brother, Owen C. Watkins, Richmond; one sister, Mrs. Lillian W. Hatcher, Natural Bridge; mother-in-law, Alice Strickler Toman, Brownsburg; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. from the Harrison Funeral Chapel, Rev. Daniel S. Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the McElwee Chapel Cemetary.
