Obituary of Annie Belle Vaughan 28 Mar 1924 - 18 Apr 1965 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mrs. Anna Belle Vaughan, 40, of Butterworth Road, Dinwiddie County, was one of seven drowning victims in weekend water cidents in and around Virginia. Mrs. Vaughan drowned yesterday while boating with friends in Gaston Lake, Mocklenbury County. According to police, the boat capsized aboit 1 p. m. and the four other passengers, including her husband. Joseph E. Vaughan, swam to shore. The body of Mrs. Vaughan was recovered about four, hours later. The accident occurred near the Steel Bridge arca of Mecklenburg County. She was employed with the Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co. and was a daughter of Mrs. Maggie Powell Brime of Dinwiddie County, and the late Henry Jackson Vaughan. She was a nalive of Mecklenburg County, but had lived Dinwiddie County most of her life. Surviving in addition to her mother area her hushand; Joseph Edward Vaughan Sr.; a stepdaughter, Joanne Naome Vaughan; a stepson, Joseph L. Vaughan Jr.; all of Dinwiddie County. a sister; Mrs. Simon Slaughter; and a brother, Thomas Vaughan, both of Petersburg; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son, The Rev. Joseph Kelly, pastor of Ocran Methodist Church will officiate.
