Gayle Urquhart Obituary Gayle Davis Urquhart June 3, 1950 - December 20, 2014 Franklin - Gayle Davis Urquhart, 64, died December 20, 2014 at the home of her daughter in Charlottesville. By her side were her children, brothers, and sister. Born in Front Royal, VA, to Methodist minister, John Edward Davis, Jr. and Margaret Russell Davis, she was one of six children. After graduating from Fort Defiance High School and attending Ferrum College she moved to Virginia Beach and met the love of her life, Charles Fox Urquhart, III, who predeceased her and waits no longer to dance with her forever. Gayle moved to Courtland with Fox in 1974 and immediately became involved with the Hospital Auxiliary, Franklin Little Theatre, the Emmanuel Episcopal Church Women and Altar Guild, and the Franklin Junior Garden Club. She was a part of the PTA, joined the band trips and was an avid sports fan. Most recently, she served as President of the Franklin Garden Club, playing vital roles in the local garden tour and flower shows all around the state. She was heavily involved in her community at the Village and assisted with the recent Capital Campaign. When she wasn t running around taking care of everyone else, she enjoyed Lunch Bunch and Book Club. Faithful, generous, and a lively spirit, Gayle will be missed by daughter Jill Urquhart Reed, wife Christie Reed of Charlottesville and; son, James B. Urquhart, wife Melissa Eddleton Urquhart of Richmond; and her precious grandchildren, James Courtland Reed, Benjamin Harper Reed and Eleanor James Urquhart. Also surviving is a sister, Debbie D. Rogers, husband, Bob Rogers, of Atlanta, GA; brothers, Mark R. Davis, wife Gina Edne Davis of Richmond, and James D. Davis, wife Millie Davis of Mount Sidney; sisters-in-law, Sharon Davis of Leesburg and Mary Louisa Urquhart Bryant of Cary, NC; six nieces; four nephews; two great-nephews; one great-niece; her dear friends who tirelessly volunteered their time and love to care for her during her sudden illness, Janet Valliere of Wilmington, NC, Betsy Brantley of Franklin, and Brooke Key of Powhatan; and her sweet Mick who now lives with family friend Elliott Whitfield. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 17, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Franklin. The family will receive friends at a reception after the memorial service on Saturday.
