Born, August 16, 1917 in Haywood County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Columbus A. & Iva Leona Price Barnes. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband James Edwin Upchurch and siblings Clyde Barnes, Thurman Barnes, and Herman Barnes. Survivors include son James E. Upchurch & wife Gini Spencer of Sebring, FL; daughter Nancy Stentz & husband Stuart of Greensboro; daughter Judy Upchurch & husband Tony Lowe of Fancy Gap; grandchildren & spouses Charles David Upchurch (Jeanne) of Raleigh, David Eberenz (Karen) of Greenville, Greg Stentz (Melissa) of Greensboro, and Ruth L. Lowe of Fancy Gap; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Margaret T. Barnes of Candler, NC; and five nieces & nephews. Trudy, as she was known to family and friends, was known throughout her active lifetime as one who cared deeply about the needs of others. Besides deep, sacrificial caring for her family, she worked hard for the sick, needy, and elderly in Guilford County, NC as a Home Health Care worker. The tenets of her Quaker faith led her to volunteer for the American Friends Service Committee, for Greensboro Urban Ministry, for special needs children, and to sew countless blankets for the needy babies at the Lugulu Hospital in Kenya.
