Obituary of Samuel Thomas Turner 6 NOV 1874 - 10 MAR 1939 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TURNER RITES HELD SUNDAY Funeral services for Samuel Thomas Turner of Chesterfield County, who was killed in an automobile accident on the Richmond-Petersburg Pike early Friday morning, were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock in the chapel of Shanko Home. Interment was Funerals Memorial Park. The Rev. William C. Shawen, pastor cf Chester Baptist Church, officiated. There was a full military service at the grave in charge of the Spanish-American War Veteran Camp at Portsmouth and the Hopewell Rifles. Pallbearers were A. S. Roberts, H. Fitton, Sr., R. H. Fitton, Jr., W. A. Fitton, W. J. Bradshaw, J. F. Hargrave, J. M. Keeton, Jr., and E. D. Smith. Besides his wife, Mrs. Martha Haines Turner of Chesterfield, Mr. Turner is survived by one daughter, Mrs. H. M. Jones, also of Chesterfield; one son, S. T. Turner, Jr., of Norfolk; one brother, J. M. Turner of Norfolk, and two sisters, Mrs. A. C. Fitten of Portsmouth and Mrs. Maggie Hargrave of Portsmouth. Mr. Turner lived at Portsmouth before coming to Chesterfield County about five years ago. He was a Spanish-American War veteran and held membership in a Portsmouth camp.
