RICHARD JAMES TURNER  

ZUNI – A funeral service for Richard James Turner was held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Purviance Funeral Chapel in Wakefield. Rev. Brian Tiffany officiated.  

Burial with Masonic rites was held in Central Hill Cemetery.  

Pallbearers were C. Morrison Butler, E. Roland Lewis, William Uzzell, J. Herman Bowden, Harvey Crocker, Walter Joyner, T.M. Carr Jr., and Lawrence B. Carr.  

Turner, 86, died 23 July 1972 at Patrick Henry Hospital after a long illness.  

He was a member of Isle of Wight County, Bethany Presbyterian Church, Woodmen of the World, and Blackwater Masonic Lodge 134. He was a retired carpenter.  

He is survived by his wife, Rosa Carr of Zuni; three sons, D. Alfred Turner of Newport News, Richard J. Turner Jr. of Hampton, and Earnest E. Turner of Ivor; two daughters, Mrs. Edgar C. Barrett of Hampton and Mrs. J.C. Johnson Jr. of Newport News; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

ZUNI – Richard James Turner, 86, died Sunday morning, 23 July 1972, in Patrick Henry Hospital after a long illness.  

A native of Isle of Wight County, he was a son of Matthew and Celie Presson Turner and the husband of Rosa Carr Turner.  

He was a member of Blackwater Masonic Lodge 134, Woodmen of the World, and Bethany Presbyterian Church. He was a retired carpenter.  

Survivors include his wife, Rosa Carr Turner of Zuni; three sons, D. Alfred Turner of Newport News, Richard J. Turner Jr. of Hampton, and Earnest E. Turner of Ivor; two daughters, Mrs. Edgar C. Barrett of Hampton and Mrs. J.C. Johnson Jr. of Newport News; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
