Born in Isle of Wight County, he was a son of the late Arthur and Beita Butler Tomlin. He was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Patricia Bailey Tomlin; two daughters, Linda T. Drake and her husband, Joe, of Newsoms and Alice T. Mason and her husband, Ricky, of Franklin; a son, William A. Tomlin Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Como, N.C.; five grandchildren, Stephen Drake and his wife, Kelly, and Justin Drake, all of Newsoms, Gregory Mason of Franklin, and Carol and Taylor Tomlin of Como.
