Mrs. Whitley  

SUFFOLK - Mrs. Mamie Tillery Byrd Whitley, 82, 322 Archers Mill Road, died Wednesday [25 January 1978] in the Guardian Care Nursing Home.  

She was a native of Lewiston, N.C.  

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Francis Gwaltney of Suffolk; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Julian S. Williams of Richmond; six sons, Tommie E. Byrd and Southgate L. Byrd, both of Murfreesboro, N.C., Wendell Byrd of Conway, N.C., David Wilson Whitley, Frank H. Whitley, and Hugh of Suffolk; 24 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.  

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday [27 January 1978] in I.O. Hill and Co. Funeral Home by the Rev. John L. Nicholas Jr.  

Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery.  

The family will receive friends at the home of a son, Frank H. Whitley, 3224 Archers Mill Road.
