She was a native of Suffolk and the daughter of the late William T. Everett Sr. and Nellie C Carter Everett. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and a member of its Nursing Unit. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Rufus A. Strothers Sr., of Portsmouth; one daughter, Sharon T. Jones, of Philadelphia, Pa.; sons, Thomas P. Jones, of Portsmouth, Rufus A. Strothers Jr., Rodney L. Strothers (Anessa) and Keith M. Thorne, both of Suffolk; two sisters, Marie Henry (Louie), of Avon, Ind., and Brenda Babb, of Suffolk; two brothers, Winfred Carter and James A. Everett (Odell), both of Suffolk; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held at noon, Friday, June 27, 2014, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Portsmouth, officiated by the Rev. Dr. William Hampton. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
