Mrs. Spivey was born in Smithfield, VA to the late Frederick Gordon and Ethel Winder Griffis and was predeceased by two brothers, Milton and Perry Griffis. She was a member of Hunterdale Christian Church. A beloved and devoted wife and mother, she leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 66 years, J.D. Spivey, one daughter, Kay S. Walsh (Michael) of Harrisonburg, two sons, Andrew G. "Drew‚Äù Spivey of North Prince George, and Larry D. Spivey (Margaret) of Colonial Heights, five grandchildren, Davis Walsh (Kristen), Katie Walsh, Kelly Anne Holemon (James), Allison and Whit Spivey and two great grandchildren, Emma Walsh and Christian Spivey. A graveside funeral will be held at 3 PM Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the Colosse Cemetery, Windsor, with the Rev. Randy Wright officiating.
