Bonnie Smith Obituary Bonnie Carol Smith, 73, passed away May 30, 2022, at Maryview Hospital in Portsmouth. Bonnie was born on June 12, 1948 to Carl and Zelle Bryan in Durham, North Carolina. After Bonnie graduated from Craddock High School in 1966, she went on to study Dental Hygiene at Old Dominion University. Meeting Al at a pool party in July 1974 led to marriage later that same year on December 13. Bonnie devoted her life to her three children leaving her position as a dental hygienist before her first child was born. Bonnie was a regular volunteer while her children were in school and took pride in attending events in which her children and grandchildren were involved. She loved rehabbing animals, was an avid reader, and enjoyed cross-stitching; but nothing made her happier than spending time with family and friends (and if those times included kicking off her shoes, even better). Bonnie was especially happy when the house was filled with family at Christmas-the holiday baking, family meals, and celebrating Jesus' birthday. Bonnie is survived by her husband of 47 years, Al; three children, Roxanne, Michael, and Bobby; two granddaughters, Lauren and Hali; a brother, Bob; a sister-in-law, Donnie (Dallas); a brother-in-law, Brian (Suzanne); and a step-daughter, Ligeia. A graveside will be held Wednesday, June 8, at 11AM at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9-10 a. m. at R. W. Baker & Company Funeral Home, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters.
