John was bom July 20, 1962, to John Douglas Shelton and Peggy Mitchell Porch. He was a true outdoorsman and loved fishing and hunting and was an avid dirt track racing fan. Most of all. he loved his daughter Elizabeth and niece, Shellie. John was a supervisor in the treating division for Coastal Treated Products, formerly Coastal Lumber Company, where he worked for 24 years. John was preceded in death by a special uncle, Franklin D. "Boo-Boo" Mitchell. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Tammie S. Shelton, and his daughter, Elizabeth Shelton, both of the home; his parents, John Douglas Shelton, of Seaboard, and Peggy Mitchell Porch, of Roanoke Rapids; and a half-brother, Jonathon Walker and his wife, Phyllis, of Virginia. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., today, Thursday, May 10, at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service in Roanoke Rapids, which is handling the arrangements, and other times at the home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 11, at Roanoke Rapids Church of God, with the Rev. Michael Mooneyham officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery'in Roanoke Rapids.
