Marcel Scarbel Obituary Marcel Paul Scarbel September 2, 1931 - August 23, 2023 Suffolk - Marcel Paul "Mike" Scarbel, 91, passed away August 23, 2023 in his home with family by his side. He was born on September 2, 1931 in Manville, RI to the late Emile and Beata Cadoret Scarbel. Mike graduated in 1948 from St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket, RI at the age of 16. He spent his younger years during the summer on his grandfather’s dairy farm. In 1952 he was drafted by the Marines and spent the next two years in the Marine Corps. On August 25, 1956, he married Audrey Joan Cortese of East Providence, RI. They lived in Providence while he attended the University of Rhode Island on the GI Bill with Audrey working as a secretary for DuPont. After graduation at the top of his class in 1960 with a BS Degree in Chemical Engineering, they moved to Charlton, NY where he went to work for GE in the Silicone Products Department in Waterford, NY. They raised four sons in Charlton and later in Glenville, NY. He had many positions over the years and traveled quite a lot for the company. He was a Purchasing Manager for the Silicone Division when he retired in 1991 with 30 years of service. One of the first things he and Audrey did was take a three month motorhome tour of the country before retiring in Chesapeake, VA where they boarded horses, got cats, a dog and their own horses. Mike was a complete do-it-yourselfer: woodworking, electrical, plumbing, remodeling, cooking, gardening, and traveling. Mike is survived by his wife of 67years, Audrey Joan Cortese Scarbel; sons, David (Donna), Kevin, Jeffrey (Kelly), and Steven (Lori); four grandsons, Austin (Marisa), Brandon, Ryan (Jaimie), and Jake; two granddaughters, Mariah (Henry) and Sydney; two great grandsons, Tyson and Rome; a brother, Eugene; sister-in-law, Kathleen Maisano (John); nieces, Donna (John) and Audrey (Brint); nephews, Ronald (Holly) and John (Jaeyoung); and many cousins and good friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2PM Sunday, August 27, 2023 in St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Robert Brownell officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Southampton Memorial Park. The family suggests that memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Catholic Church Building Fund, 1014 Clay Street, Franklin, VA 23851.
