Obituary of Richard Jarvis (Richie) Saunders 1 SEP 1866 - 13 JUN 1937 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Richie Saunders Suffolk, June 13-Richie Saunders, 70, prominent farmer of Nansemond County, and son of the Jatel Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Saunders, died this afternoon at his home in the county, after a long illness. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at the home, at 2:30 o'clock, by the Rev. J. S. Johnston, of Whaleyville, assisted by Dr. I. W. Johnson, the Rev. E. A. Potts, and the Rev. R. E. Brittle. Mr. Saunders is survived by one son, R. Curtis Saunders, of Suffolk; two daughters, Mrs. C. D. Jordan and Miss Lizzie Saunders of the county, and seven grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas J. Saunders of Everett's Bridge and William G. of Chuckatuck; two sisters, Mrs. A. L. Saunders and Mrs. R. M. Ashburn of Suffolk, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Saunders had been a member of Oakland Christian Church for many years. He was widely known and beloved throughout his neighborhood. Active pall bearers will be W. B. Harrell, L. W. Gardner, L. A. Norfleet, H. G. Walker, T. R. Saunders, M. P. Wright, Harry Saunders, Thomas Ashburn, R. A. Wright, sand H. H. Williams.
