He was a retired farmer and the owner of Seward Ford Inc. of Surry and Roy E. Seward Insurance Agency in Wakefield. He was a livestock dealer, crop insurance agent, and peanut fertilizer broker. He was a member of Surry Baptist Church, Surry American Legion Post, Jefferson Lodge No. 65 AF&AM, Surry, and the Professional Agents Association. He was also an Air Force veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elma Joyner Seward of Elberon; a daughter, Mrs. Connie S. Langston of Cleveland, Tenn.; three brothers, Roy E. Seward Jr. of Richmond, Philip A.
