Lydia Harrell Rose 28 Apr 1911 - 29 Dec 1997 Lydia H. Rose CARRSVILLE- Lydia Harrell Rose, 86, of 31374 Harvest Drive, died Dec. 29, 1997, at her residence. She was a native of Suffolk. A homemaker, she was the widow of John Edward Rose. She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. During the early 1930s, she was a teacher at Carrsville School. For many years, she was an active leader in PTA at the local and state levels, including Tidewater District PTA president. She had extensive involvement at Beaver Dam Church, including being a Sunday school teacher and Royal Ambassador leader. She also worked in the Women's Missionary Union, of which she was church president and later associational superintendent. For many years, she was chairman of the Memorial Gifts Committee. For six years, Mrs. Rose served on the board of trustees for Walter Cecil Rawls Library. She was also a member of the Holland Woman's Club, the Carrsville Homemakers' Club, and for 50 years a member of Sinai Chapter No. 18 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was the daughter of the late Raleigh Clarke Harrell and Adina Baker Harrell. She was preceded in death by two: sons, Capt. John Beverley Rose and Robert Edward Rose; and three brothers, Beverley T. Harrell, R. Clarke Harrell and David E. Harrell. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Lydia Joanne Rose Willis, and her husband, Wayne, of Smithfield, and Mary Rose Campbell of Marietta, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Billie Fay Barrett Rose of Carrsville; grandchildren, Robert Barrett Rose of Yorktown, Adina Baker Rose of Carrsville, Capt. John B. Willis of Charlottesville, Capt. Robert A. Willis of Illesheim, Germany, Robert C. Campbell of Marietta, Ga., and A. Scott Campbell of Marietta, Ga.; and great-grandchildren, Tyler and Madeleine Willis and Michaela Rose. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 1:30 p.m. at Beaver Dam Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Peerey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
